Dr. Desmond AMIEGBEBHOR,
Deputy Director, Bus Services
Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Nigeria
   
Dr. Amiegbebhor joined the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, London CILT in 1987, and graduated in 1991. He holds a PhD degree in Transportation Geography from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, London. He is also a transport researcher, reformist and practitioner.

He has about 10 years of experience in the industry which includes having been a Transport Manager and a General Manager of Operations and Logistics at ABC Transport Plc. During his tenor in the organization, he contributed to the driving technical reform in the intercity bus service sector.

He is currently a Deputy Director of Bus Services in LAMATA and heads a team that drives the bus reform and oversees the realization of an efficient and effective Bus Rapid transit (BRT) network in Lagos State, including planning, regulating, and management and monitoring all aspects of the operations of BRT services. He also provides expert input/specifications on infrastructure/facilities needed to support effective bus and BRT operations in the State.

Lastly, he has delivered processional papers to distinguished international audience on Bus Reforms in Senegal, Abidjan, South Africa and Ahmadabad in Indian; and attended conferences and training in Singapore, US, Bogota, UK, South Africa amongst others. He is a contributor to professional journal, and passionate about transport reform and development.

Mr. Abdallah AL ZARI,

Mr. Al Zari is presently the Director General of Sharjah Transport, which he established from scratch in 2003 to fulfill the objectives set by the Sharjah Government to develop the Public Transport sector in Sharjah.

Sharjah Transport has since made improvements to the Sharjah Public Transport sector such as developing the taxi service sector, providing for more than 40 million taxi passengers per year, and improving the Inter-city mass transport service that links Sharjah city with all major cities in UAE by introducing new Luxury busses in cooperation with Transport Authorities in other emirates to provide high standard service for more than 7 million passengers per year.

He holds a Bachelor of Accounting and a Bachelor of Law from UAE University and University of Sharjah respectively, and has 25 years of proven management, directorship, financial and legal skills within the Transport industry. Mr Abdallah Al Zari was honoured by UITP last year as a public transport leadership figure influential in the development of transport in the Middle East and North Africa.

Mr. Azmi Abdul AZIZ,
Chief Development Officer
Land Public Transport Commission, Malaysia
   
Mr. Aziz is currently the Chief Development Officer of Land Public Transport Commission, Malaysia or in short S.P.A.D. His key role is to manage the development of policy and planning with regards to the transformation of the nation's land public transport landscape. He is also responsible for supervision of the first MRT project in the country.

Prior to this appointment, he was the Chief Operating Officer for Scomi Engineering Bhd. While with Scomi Engineering, Mr. Aziz served as the Project Director for India's 1st monorail project in Mumbai. Based in Mumbai, he was responsible for management of the project at strategic level and responsible in designing the project control mechanism system.

He also served as the General Manager of Rail Operations for Rapid KL and Chief Operating Officer of KLRT, a subsidiary of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad.

Mr. Aziz has brought with him a rich and exciting 25 years serving both the public and private sectors in the transport industry, especially rail.

Before management consulting, he held positions at two international financial institutions in Hong Kong and Singapore in the structured finance and foreign exchange areas.

Ms. Aye is a Senior Engineer at Amberg & TTI Engineering Pte Ltd. She graduated from Yangon Technological University, Myanmar with an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with Honors. Thereafter, she finished her Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Specialization at National University of Singapore.

Ms. Aye has been involved in the feasibility study on Underground Rock Cavern project and the design of Down Town Line 2, Down Town Line 3, Cable tunnel and Jurong Rock Cavern projects in Singapore. She has projects related experience in the different aspects of geotechnical engineering, including the geotechnical interpretative baseline report, the analysis and design of deep excavation, retaining wall, tunnel lining and rock cavern. In addition, she has experience in 2D and 3D finite element modeling and various geotechnical softwares.

Mr. O.P. AGARWAL,
Urban Transport Adviser
The World Bank, India
   
Mr. Agarwal is the Urban Transport Adviser at the World Bank. He assists and advises all urban transport projects of the World Bank, across all regions.

For nearly 30 years, he was a member of the civil service in India and as one his assignments he headed the urban transport division of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. He was the key author of India's National Urban Transport Policy and also developed a five year action plan for improving urban mobility in Indian cities over the 11th five year plan.

He was also the Managing Director of the Urban Mass Transit Company, a joint venture company in India, engaged in developing sustainable urban mobility solutions. He has a master's degree in Transportation and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

He is skilled at developing custom project processes and reporting procedures, and writing and presenting reports, which give clients and stakeholders the confidence that their projects are meeting their vision and objectives. He has played a key role in many high profile projects including Amman Bus Rapid Transit, implementation of the Emirates Stadium Transport Strategy, Merseytram and the Spectator Transport Strategy for the Manchester Commonwealth Games.

Mr. Armitage has worked in many sectors including Government, local government, consultancy and construction management, giving him a broad insight in appreciating client requirements and providing effective solutions.

Mr. Body joined Bentley in October 2001 when Bentley acquired GEOPAK Corporation, where he served in numerous roles including Applications Engineer and Business Development Manager.

Before joining GEOPAK Corporation in 1995, Mr. Body held the role as senior civil designer/surveyor within a Western Australian municipality. Dr. Barter is a transport policy expert and trainer, and an Adjunct Professor in the LKY School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore (NUS). As a faculty member at NUS from 2000 until 2012, he has taught on infrastructure policy, urban policy, transport policy and introduction to public policy. His earlier published research explored comparative perspectives on the interactions between urban transport policy and urban land-use policy, with a focus especially on Southeast and East Asia. His recent and current policy interests and research focuses include parking policy, public transport regulation and innovation in travel demand management. He is the author of the 2011 Asian Development Bank report, Parking Policy in Asian Cities. He is currently advising metropolitan governments in Indonesia and China on parking reform.

Mr. Brader is founder member and Managing Director of UK based Integrated Transport Planning Ltd. In 2009 he was voted UK Transport Planner of the Year for his lead role in implementing Africa's first BRT in Lagos, Nigeria. He has led the development of Bus Rapid Transit schemes in Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria, Jordan, South Africa, Philippines and the UK.

In the Philippines he has led both the Cebu BRT Pre-Feasibility and full Feasibility studies. He is currently leading the Manila BRT feasibility study. His approach is based on the recognition that transport choice is part of lifestyle choice, transport must be considered holistically and that the answer often lies outside of traditional transport thinking, but most importantly, that transport must be focussed on user needs. To this end his work is underpinned with social research and defined by stakeholder engagement. In the past he has led the transport strategy development for the extension of Hong Kong's central business district and against all odds implemented major public transport reform in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ms. Boujenko is the founder of Intermethod and specialises in integrated street design, city development, transport planning and organisational development. Natalya's portfolio spans an extensive range of projects, policy and academic work in Australia, Ireland and England.

She has led a number of innovative projects and programs focused on integrating multi-modal street-needs, developing bespoke methodologies to achieve 'streets for people' objectives.

Ms. Boujenko has prepared a number of design guides and manuals, technical papers and publications. Most notably, she is a joint author of 'Link and Place: A Guide to Street Planning and Design', best practice design guidance for street space allocation and balancing of competing street demands. She was also instrumental in developing a Network Management Planning methodology for Transport for London, which advocated an innovative integrated approach to road corridor planning and implementation works.

Recently, she has been a lead author for the new award winning Compendium for street design for South Australia, has been actively involved in developing the Adelaide City Council's 'Smart Move' integrated movement strategy and has provided design advice for a number of streets and public realm projects.

Currently, Ms. Boujenko lectures at the Universities of Adelaide and is a Committee Member of Mainstreet SA.

Yutong proposed the slogan of "boosting public transport" and endeavored to put it into practice, aiming to promote the improvement of urban living environment and facilitate the travel of dwellers, making roads more unimpeded. Under the leadership and support of local municipal government, Yutong mapped out the BRT development program with the public transport company in 2008. After being put into operation from 2010, BRT has seen remarkable achievements in saving the traffic resources, easing traffic congestion and improving dwellers' travels.

Yutong's new energy bus plant's annual production capacity is 30,000 units and is committed to achieving the vision of "green energy, low carbon travel and healthier urban life". Through research and practice, Yutong has created the application mode of "informatization + new energy", trying to make the society, government, dwellers and operating companies more satisfied by means of promoting the trial run of new energy city buses.

He has also worked extensively on urban planning projects throughout Canada and abroad. Throughout his academic and professional career, Mr. Chu has garnered a diverse range of skills and experiences working in both the private and public sector with organizations such as the Toronto Transit Commission, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Sorbara Development Group, BA Consulting Group, Regional Municipality of York and the Town of Richmond Hill.

He was formerly an active member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute's (OPPI) Transportation Working Group and had co-authored a mass transit publication named, "Plain Transit for Planners".

Mr. Reed has recently presented a paper and lecture at the 12th COTA International Conference of Transportation Professionals in Beijing, China.

Prof. Chin is Associate Professor of Transportation Economics at the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore. He was seconded as Lead Economist in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Land Transport Authority (2002-2004). He served as a Member of the Public Transport Council for 2 terms and has taken part as Resource Panel Member in the Parliamentary Committee on Transport.

In addition, he is a founding member of the Networking Committee of the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) and Track Leader in the Centre for Maritime Studies, National University of Singapore (CMS). He is also the Chief Editor of the Journal for Logistics and Sustainable Transport and has been a consultant to various international organizations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Maritime Organization. He was recently awarded the Hanjin Prize for best paper, at the International Association of Maritime Economists Annual Conference 2012.

Ms. Delmas has been in RATP for 38 years. She spent most of her career in operational responsibilities and is currently General Inspector at RATP Executive Department, supervising internal audits and special inquiries.

Since 2007, she has been leading the strategic axis "create a new business culture" for UITP Strategy as Chairperson of the "Business and Human Resources Management Commission in UITP.

In UITP context, she is the leader of the International Employment Observatory which gave its first results for the Dubai Congress in April 2011 and the chairperson of the Social Matters Expert Group to advise UITP EU Committee on social matters.

Dr. El Hadrami is presently the Technical Director for the Security and Transportation Domain at Thales Solutions Asia, and is based in Singapore. He has a PhD in Electronics & Communication from Sup'Telecom – Paris (Telecommunications University, Paris – France).

In 2000, Dr. El Hadrami moved to Canada (Toronto) to work for Alcatel Transport Solution (now, Thales). There, he held several key roles such as Project Systems Engineer, Seltrac CBTC Product Manager and CBTC System Design Manager, and his team put in service several CBTC lines in Beijing and Shanghai. Thereafter, he moved to China to become the Technical Director for Thales Rail Signaling, developed strong local CBTC and signaling competence in China and managed the associated transfer of technology. He then moved to Singapore in 2012 to assume his current position. As a Technical Director and CBTC expert, he manages the multidiscipline engineering department and delivers Security and Transportation projects including Re-signaling of North-South and East-West lines and its extension for Singapore. Dr. Alex ERATH,

Dr. Erath is a senior researcher at the Future Cities Laboratory, the first research programme by the Singapore ETH Centre. He coordinates a research project on agent-based modelling and planning of mobility and transportation. Dr. Erath obtained his PhD from ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) where he studied the vulnerability of transport infrastructure. His MSc thesis in civil engineering at ETH was awarded with the VSS price for the best thesis in Road and Transportation research. At the Future Cities Laboratory, he coordinates the development and application of the implementation of an agent-based transport demand model for Singapore which involved various innovative approaches in terms data analysis and modelling.

In Switzerland, he was involved in various studies on travel behaviour with a focus on stated preference surveys and led a project on long term fuel price elasticity that featured stated adaptation face-to-face interviews. Further projects included a baseline survey on mobility pricing in Switzerland, which covered both aspects of acceptability and demand reaction and the joint estimation of several Swiss stated preference data sets whose results are now part of the Swiss cost benefit guidelines. Finally, in his MSc thesis he focused on the impact of travel time and possible savings in shopping location choice. He is an active member of the research community in the field and acts as a reviewer for various journals and conferences.

Mr. Ferreira is a Senior Environment and Sustainability Specialist at São Paulo Metrô, a publicly owned company under SP State's Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He has been working with SP Metrô for 25 years and recently served as Institutional Relations Coordinator and as Advisor to the State Secretary of Metropolitan Transportation.

Along his 30 years in the field, Mr. Ferreira developed a wide range of experience in transportation planning, sustainability and environmental issues, gained in a practice involving rapid transit systems design and transportation planning, policies, and regulations. He is a seasoned lecturer and also authored a number of magazine articles and academic papers, and co-authored a major book on transportation, environment, and health impacts, besides working as translator for urban planning and transit-related papers and books.

Mr. Ferreira received his university degree of Architecture and Urban Planning (MArch + MUP equiv.) from São Paulo University. In 2000, he lived in Tokyo, Japan, where he mastered in Urban Transportation Planning. Back to Japan, in 2006, he got a post-graduation specialization in Environmental Management in Osaka.

Mr. Ferreira is the Environment and Sustainable Mobility Director of AEAMESP, a 21 years old non-profit advocacy association devoted to promoting efficient, environmentally sound, inclusive, and affordable transportation systems. He is also the Executive Coordinator of ILATS, a non-profit NGO created to promote sustainable mobility and livable urban environments in Latin America. Presently he is also a voting councilor at the State Environmental Council and at the State's Climate Change Policy Steering Committee.

He has been working in SELI since 1984 and was initially a TBM engineer, following different TBM jobsites all over the world. In 1989, he became the company's Managing Director and has been President since 2002.

During his 25 years in SELI, he has supervised over 100 TBM projects and has had about 700 km of tunnel excavated all around the world. Just to mention a few: Whanjazhai Yellow River Diversion Project (China), Evinos tunnel (Greece), Metro projects in Turin, Rome, Vancouver, Caracas, S. Paolo, Oporto, Athens, Tessaloniki, New York. He has also consulted several public and private clients for tunnel projects during the design stage and/or during project execution. Thereafter in 1977, he founded the Herrenknecht Tunnelling Systems GmbH in Schwanau, Southern Germany, which was transformed to Herrenknecht AG in 1998. Herrenknecht has been the Chairman of the Board of Management ever since.

Herrenknecht has also received numerous honors and awards, including an Honorable PhD/Dr.-Ing.E.h. by the Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina at Brunswick, Germany, and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2009 Herrenknecht became a member of the Handelsblatt Hall of Fame for German Entrepreneurship.

Professor Jobson studied catalytic processes at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH Zürich) in Switzerland and graduated with a PhD in 1989. He was consecutively employed by Volvo and has managed research activities in the areas of emission control, energy efficiency, hybrids, fuel cells and sustainable fuels. In 2006, he took the position as environmental director at Volvo Bus Corporation and is responsible for electromobility and related issues at Volvo Buses.

Professor Jobson has also been coordinator and president of large cooperation projects on emissions and fuel efficient engines, within the European Framework programmes. The research assignments have led to several inventions out of which 17 patents and patent applications have been registered. In 2001, control of the deterioration of catalysts led him to the "Henry Ford Award for technical excellence". He has in parallel to the management of research activities at Volvo Technology, written about 40 publications. In 1998, he became adjunct professor at Chalmers Institute of Technology. He is presently securing the electro mobility product and market offers.

Moshe Ben-Akiva and Chris Zegras in real-time traffic prediction, behavior modeling, and advanced data collection technologies. In these projects, he applies his research on data mining and pattern recognition applied to unstructured contextual sources (e.g. web, news feeds, etc.) to extract information relevant to mobility.

He is also a Professor in the University of Coimbra, Portugal from where he has a PhD degree, and a co-founder of the Ambient Intelligence Lab of that University. He led the development of several projects that apply these context mining principles, some with collaboration other MIT groups such as the Senseable City Lab, where he worked as a postdoc during 2009/10.

Together with other researchers from A-Star, SUTD and MIT, he won recently the GYSS@one-north Singapore Challenge 2013 with a white paper on an "Adaptive Transportation System".

He is now managing teams responsible for the operation of London Buses ITS systems. This includes the delivery of "Countdown II" project (£32) providing real-time bus arrival predictions for buses at 19,000 bus stops across London on the internet, SMS and via other digital channels including a data interface supporting over 30 independent Smartphone 'Apps'. In addition, he is responsible for coordinating Data Syndication of TfL to the developer community for third party 'App' development and chairs the Wireless Steering Group for TFL's Surface Transport Division.

Mr. Reed is also a regular speaker at ITS and technology events including Travel 2020 (2011) ITS-UK (2011 and 2012), Real-Time Passenger Information 2012, the ITS World Congress (Vienna 2012) and has presented to a number of Chartered institutes and professional bodies.

Between 2001 and 2006, he worked for Anite PLC as Services Director before running the Company's Document Management software and managed services business. Prior to this Mr. Reed had a fifteen year career with leading UK Software & Services company Fujitsu/ICL culminating as the General manager for their Local Government Software business.

Mr. Stuart-Smith has over 25 years' experience in rail and 10 years as Principal / Chief Engineer, Electrical Systems of RailCorp NSW and its predecessors before joining Arup four years ago. He is a recognised leader in electric traction infrastructure and is passionate about good design leading to configurations which are safe, reliable, and maintainable.

Mr. Stuart-Smith's early experience in the NSW rail system includes development of technology for the inspection of OLE from rail vehicles running at line speed; the design of a suite of new components for the NSW Mark II OLE cantilever, components that are still in use more than 25 years later; and the maintenance requirements analysis for the many different types of traction rectifier used on the NSW system. The latter includes the development of the service schedules for this equipment which are a key part of the reliability centred technical maintenance plan still in use.

As Chief Engineer, Mr Stuart-Smith's challenges span the technical oversight of the traction supply upgrade program through to the on-going refinement of RailCorp's safety systems.

Since joining Arup, while continuing to work on projects in NSW, David has contributed to interstate and international projects including: the extension of the Melbourne electrification to Sunbury; the Gold Coast Light Rail, Gautrain in South Africa; the extension of the Kelana Jaya Light Metro Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and the Adelaide Electrification. He is presently Arup's global traction power skills leader and the Australasia Region rail engineering practice leader. Mr Stuart-Smith is also a Fellow of Engineers Australia and holds a BE (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the NSW Institute of Technology and a M. Eng. Mgt. from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Dr. Tica is professor at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade, at the Department for Road and Urban Transport. He holds courses on master degree studies and at the Ph.D. level.

From 2002 to 2008, he was general manager of Directorate for Public Transport, City of Belgrade, and the general manager of GSP "Beograd". In the period of 2007 to 2010, he was Vice President for the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and President of the Light Rail Division. From 2012, he has been Vice Dean for scientific researches at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade.

He has experience as a project leader, project manager and author in over 45 studies and projects in the field of technology and organization of transport. He is also author of 50 scientific research papers in the field of transport.

For his work and contribution to the profession, he has been awarded several times, of which the most important awards are: the University of Belgrade and Media Inventa "Captain Misa Anastasijevic" for the best manager in public entrepreneurship in 2005; the Award of the Association of Journalists of Serbia, "Transport and Traffic Manager of the Year" for the best manager in the field of traffic and transportation in 2008; UITP Award for his services to the world public transport. He was appointed honorary vice-president of the UITP in 2009.

Prior to that, she was Policy Manager for the Millennium Commission acting as trouble-shooter on key project issues and helping allocate National Lottery funds to a range of projects across the UK.

Ms. Turner joined TfL in 2006 as Policy Manager for Congestion Charging, leading the work on policy development and consultations for the scheme. In 2009, she began her current role, developing Crossrail funding policy, leading consultation for the Mayor's Transport Strategy and becoming environmental champion for TfL. She led development of TfL's environmental strategies - with a focus on the development of the Mayor's Air Quality and Climate Change Strategies.

She is also currently responsible for TfL's work on Growth Areas - looking at how transport can help unlock new development and ensure sustainable growth and meet changing aspirations. Lastly, she is Secretariat to the Mayor's Road Task Force which is seeking to develop a strategic framework for the management, design and development of London's streets and road network.

These corporate and local activities give him a large and international experience of marketing and innovation in the public transport sector as an operator, as well as a consultant and a lecturer.

Inside UITP, Mr. Vautier now chairs the PRESCOM committee, which is in charge of the UITP's strategy implementation and run. He has also been president and founder of the marketing and product development commission (2003 – 2007) and is still involved in the UITP Youth program.

His former position was to lead the marketing activities of RATP in Paris and, before that, he used to act as marketing and development director in different operations of the TRANSDEV group (1989 – 1998). In Montpellier he was also appointed as Designer and project manager for the tramway launched in 2000.

Mr. Vahnberg is Senior Vice President of Västtrafik, the public transport authority of West Sweden. He is also the Chairman of the UITP Organising Authority Committee. Mr. Vahnberg has many years of experience within the public transport sector and has worked with the financial, operational and political sides of the organisation. He has taken the company successfully through several major changes, with mergers and new ownership structures, and worked with the establishment of the organisation it is today.

Mr Vahnberg is also a member of the management board for the West Swedish Agreement of which congestion charges in Gothenburg is a part. He has early experience from the engineering and IT industry in Sweden and in North America and is an experienced public speaker, both locally and internationally. Above all, he has a well-established international network, a Masters in Engineering and an MBA.

Since 2005, Mr. Wondracek has been part of the electronic tolling business unit in Vienna, which deals with project management, marketing and sales. His experience is derived from having been PM for the operations phase of Traffic Choices Program for Pudget Sound Regional Council in Seattle, the Functional Test of Concept for the Slovak Truck Tolling System, and the two Functional Test of Concept for the French Truck Tolling Scheme; Sales Manager for the ASEAN market (Asia) and the SADAC market (Southern African Countries); Project Manager for the System Evaluation Test in Singapore on the Siemens side; and Certification Manager for the certification process in Spain.

At present, he heads the global tolling systems team at Siemens.

Mr. Winterberg is specialised in fibre reinforcement for concrete and its application development. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Bochum, Germany, and received his Ph.D. on the cracking behaviour of steel fibre reinforced concrete in 1998.

After two employments as Technical Director in German companies he started his own Engineering Company for the development of fibre reinforced concrete solutions and applications in 2004. Since 2005, he has been working also as a consultant to the Fibre Division of Officine Maccaferri S.p.A., headquartered in Italy, supporting their worldwide subsidiaries in the technical market development of the Fibre Division. In February 2010 he joined Maccaferri Asia Headquarters in Malaysia, as Technical Director of the Fibre Division Asia/Oceania.

Ralf co-authored the Guide to Good Practice "Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete" by the German Concrete Association and contributed to RILEM TC162-TDF "Test and Design Methods for SFRC" as well as to CEN TC104 WG11 "Fibres for Concrete" for the harmonised European Standard EN 14889. He was chairing the Fibres' Technical Committee of EFNARC and is member of ITA–AITES WG12 "Shotcrete use" and ITA-Tech AG "Support".

He has also published numerous papers and articles on the performance of fibre reinforced concrete with a focus on the structural and the durability improvements by fibres.

He is now coordinator of double master degree program "Advanced Urbanism" between Tongji University and Weimar Bauhaus University. His research work is tightly relative to the planning, design and management of the urban mobility environment, with focus on the integration of rail transportation in the urban space; the organization of urban transportation hubs and low speed transportation networks; the incitation of urban public transportation development.
