Technical Tours

An exciting and comprehensive programme of tours has been arranged for delegates to attend on Thursday, 10 October 2013. These technical tours are open to all registered congress delegates. Do register early for your preferred tour as limited slots are available on a first-come-first-served basis. As the tours run concurrently, please choose only one of the following tours when completing your registration.

Tour 2: Visit to rail Operation Control Centre for Circle Line

 
(i) Circle Line Operation Control Centre and Kim
    Chuan Depot


The Kim Chuan Depot is the world's largest underground depot at 160m wide, 17m high, and a floor area equivalent to the size of 17 football fields put together. It is designed to stable the trains for both the Circle Line and Downtown Line and can hold up to 77 three-car trains. Standing at 23m high and covering a floor are of 720sqm, it is the tallest underground automated warehouse storage system in Singapore. It has a storage capacity of more than 24,000 spare parts with a retrieval process of only four minutes. Delegates will be taken to the two levels underground where they will have a chance to see the unique features of Kim Chuan Depot such as the Operation Control Centre and some maintenance facilities in the depot.

Tour 3: Visit to integrated transport hub (bus & rail & shopping centre/residential) and rail construction site tour

 
(i) Integrated transport hub @ Sengkang

Delegates will have a chance to tour one of Singapore's integrated transport hubs at Sengkang where various transport modes (MRT, LRT and bus services) are integrated with commercial/residential developments.
 
(ii) Downtown Line 3 – Construction of Expo
     Station & tunnels


Delegates will be taken to tour the Expo Station and associated cut-and-cover tunnel construction sites. Delegates will get to see braced excavation for top-down and bottom-up construction, reinforced concrete construction and monitoring of the works by geotechnical instrumentation.

Tour 7: Rail construction site tour and visit to the Intelligent Transport Systems Centre (ITSC) Operation Control Centre (OCC)

 
(i) Downtown Line 3 – Fort Canning Station &
    tunnels


Delegates will get to tour the construction site of Fort Canning Station and associated tunnels which are equipped with crippled sidings and future development provisions. Delegates will also get to witness the temporary realigned Singapore River where the bore tunnelling will go underneath amongst other structures such as the National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Management University, North-South, North-East & Circle Lines etc.
 
(ii) ITSC OCC at River Valley

Delegates will be taken on a visit to the ITSC which is responsible for traffic incident management, road tunnel operations, traffic light control, and a host of maintenance activities to ensure that Singapore's expressways and key arterial roads network remain continually smooth flowing. Delegates will be able to see how ITSC, which operates round the clock, manages via the i-transport platform which integrates various intelligent transport systems such as Green Link Determining (GLIDE) System, Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (EMAS), Junction Eyes (J-Eyes) and Traffic.Smart. Delegates may be interested to know that ITSC also oversees the operations and maintenance of Southeast Asia's longest underground road tunnel, the Kallang Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel.
