Pierre Dersin is RAM (Reliability-Availability-Maintainability) Director and PHM (Prognostics & Health Management) Director of ALSTOM Digital Mobility, based in Saint-Ouen, France. He joined Alstom 1990 and has occupied several positions, mainly in RAMS and Maintenance, before taking his current roles. One of his achievements at Alstom has been to establish the “RAM Center of Excellence” in 2007.

Before Alstom, Pierre worked on the reliability of large electric power networks, such as Large Scale System Effectiveness Analysis Program sponsored by the US Department of Energy from 1977 to 1980, at MIT and Systems Control Inc. From 1983 to 1999, he also worked on fault diagnostic systems for factory automation for FABRICOM .

Pierre Dersin has had extensive experience speaking at international conferences. For example, he was a keynote speaker on the  topic of  « PHM : an attempt at diagnosing the present and prognosticating the future", at the European PHM Conference (Nantes) in 2014; he spoke on " PHM in Railways; big data or smart data ?" at the Prognostics and System Health Management Conference in Harbin (China) in 2017.

Pierre Dersin has also been actively engaging in various committees and contributing his expertise in RAM and PHM. For example, currently, he chairs the IEEE Reliability Society Technical Committee on Systems of Systems and is also a member of the IEEE Future Directions Committee.

Born and raised in Belgium, Pierre Dersin obtained a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has contributed to various publications, among which, he is the lead author of 4 chapters in the forthcoming “Handbook of RAMS in Railways: Theory & Practice” (Taylor & Francis).
